The Red Vineyard – Bevagna (Perugia)
La Vigna Rossa (The red vineyard) is an agriturismo (farm guest house) located in the area of Bevagna, in a farm completely fenced and shaded by oaks and walnut and olive trees.
It allows you to enjoy moments of privacy and wellness and to be in contact with the nature, having physical and mental benefits.
The location is close to the most interesting Umbrian destinations for history, art and culture, such as Gubbio, Perugia, Assisi, Spello, Spoleto, Orvieto and Todi.
It is also simple to go from Bevagna to Rome and Florence, and it takes about 2 hours by train.
The food and wine tourism should be highlighted as well.
The very fragrant and heady Sagrantino di Montefalco DOCG wine was appointed in 1998 as the best Italian wine by the most important Italian wine guides and the Spello extra virgin olive oil was graded by the newspaper “Il Sole 24 ore” among the top four best olive oils all over the world.
In going from winery to winery and five minutes drive from our farm, is well worth a visit to the cellar sculpture by Arnaldo Pomodoro, which has the shape of the carapace of a turtle, in the town of Castelbuono Bevagna.
Sagrantino and Rosso di Montefalco wines and Colli Martani DOP extra virgin olive oil are the main organic products of our farm; and, as a guest of La vigna rossa, you will have the chance to taste them.
It is just the characteristic color of the Sagrantino grape, which reds our hills in autumn, that inspired the name of our agriturismo.
To enjoy the spectacle of these colors, we recommend you take a holiday in the area during the period of All Saints. So you can enjoy the countryside in full fall colors and visit its mills tasting bruschetta with new oil, the pride of the area.
Even Van Gogh was impressed by these colors, as you can see from his famous work “The Red Vineyard“, oil on canvas, 73×92 cm, 1888, Pushkin Museum, Moscow.
Regarding to more practical needs, the other major Umbrian tradition, that is absolutely worthy of mentioning, is the art of charcuterie, in which the neighboring town of Norcia excels. Its most famous product, the ham, has been awarded since 1997 with the IGP label.
In the same area you can also enjoy other typical Umbrian products such as savory ricotta cheese or Castelluccio lentils, an other IGP product known for its high quality and its production area at an altitude of 1,400 meters.
The black truffle and the wild boar sausages are definitely worthy of tasting as well.
